Description

The Cerberus Mobile Defense Platform is a formidable defense station/battleship hybrid deployed over valuable Terran Protectorate assets. With firepower equal to a small taskforce, and four wings of fighters and fighter/bombers, these vessels are designed to detect enemy ships at extreme range and then quickly move into a defensive position to intercept them and neutralize them. Most of the time, the Protectorate hopes these stations will work as a deterrent. They are visible, large and intimidating, and the Protectorate makes no secret about where (most) of them are stationed.
They are capable, in extreme circumstances, of acting like a normal ship and even have FTL capabilities, however, they are usually supplied from frequent cargo trips planetside and cannot function independently for long.
About 95% of the time, they function as administrative space stations, coordinating high-orbit traffic, refueling transient vessels that do not need or want to go planetside, and working as massive customs stations and orbital star ports. They are also small military bases, that often contain the command and control for the Stellar Navy's operations in an entire star system.

Here she is, completed at last! Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

I know you posted this over ten years ago, but I have to ask, what are those big cylinders with the red lights? I see them on your Dreadnaught-class battlecarrier, and several other ships, and they don't have an obvious function. My suspicion is that they are just a shape you threw on to help round out the various ship models, but I wouldn't be surprised if you have (or quickly come up with) a valid explanation of what they are.

BTW, your universe's ships are one of four I use in my imagining of MY universe (game universe, etc) for the Terran navy...the other three being Babylon 5, Stargate, and Halo. All have what I consider fairly realistic ships that I could see being part of a real interstellar navy.
