This is my first published piece of art! It was just published in Palladium Books' Fleets of the Three Galaxies as a full-page black and white piece of art on page 6, opening the book. [link]
It came out slightly darker than I liked in their printing process, but it's still a really nice piece for me to use as a launching point for being a published artist and it looks good in the book. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they placed it right at the beginning of the book. That's two big milestones for me in one month...so I'm really giddy about it.
So here's the piece in all its color. This is reduced in size, the full size was 2200x3000 at 150 dpi. Thank God I have a quadcore. All the ships and models were created in Carrara and DOGA. The background was created in GIMP 2.6.
I love the space station so much that I'm using the parts of it I made to make a lot of variants, which you'll see probably pop up in my other pieces (like the spacedock one I posted yesterday)
I like this one. A space station with a shipyard where spaceships can dock Good idea I wish to use a similar idea in the strategy game Star Trek Armada 2
Do you know if its legal to sell art that features models crated in DoGA using the parts that come with the program, or do you have to make your own parts to avoid copyright infringement? I'm just asking because I've used DoGA models in some of my art and was wondering if its ok to sell.
Absolutely. As long as you are not selling the models themselves ad 3d files, it is okay to sell art made from just about any 3D resource. The only time that is a problem is if its a licensed INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY; for example, a model of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek. If you see something on a 3D resource or modeling program that says you can't sell art made from it, DO NOT BUY IT. That's the entire point of all of those programs, to make saleable products.
I just recently bought the book and let me tell you, your art should have stay in color. It is absolutly fantastic. ? did you made art for any other company. If so please let me know wich book and company. Also could you do art in the form of Lunar marines and laser rifles?
Love the pic btw.
very well...
