The Tengu medium fighter is the newest addition to the Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy star fighter program. It is designed to augment and eventually replace the Crossbow Space Superiority Fighter, which is a tall order. Unlike the Crossbow, which is almost a dedicated dogfighter and interceptor, the Tengu is a much more flexible weapons platform. It carries better sensors, and the B-model has a second seat for a radar intercept officer and a an impressive ECM and comm suite. The standard loadout includes a pair of particle beam cannons for assaulting larger targets, two FTDY-101 Antiship fusion torpedoes (known affectionately as "fat ladies", because when they sing it's pretty much over) for engaging capitol ships and space stations, and for combat with other starfighters and similarly scaled vessels the Tengu carries eight Hyabusa APE (armor piercing explosive) missiles in two box launchers, and a pair of 180mm electromagnetic rail autocannons for close-in dogfighting. It also has EM decoys and a much, much smaller energy and heat signature than the Crossbow. It is not as fast as the Crossbow, but it is as maneuverable, thanks to an advanced antigravity assisted drive system that triples the fighter's range, making it more suitable for long-range strike missions and patrols. However it is less adept at operating in atmosphere.
Another nice design
