The Red Alert Mercenary Company is one of the more famous merc groups operating in known space.
While they will take jobs considered unsavory they are just as quick to take a job defending a colony under threat, as long as the employer can pay. They will generally refuse to take jobs that involve the wholesale slaughter of unarmed civilians or blatantly illegal activities that are likely to put them at odds with the law, but that doesn't make them good guys. They just prefer jobs where there is a clear cut conflict and clearly defined sides to avoid repercussions after those conflicts are over. It's just good business.
Red Alert specializes in last-minute jobs that require rapid deployment of offensive or defensive assets. Helping a colony rebound from a surprise attack, anti-terrorism and hostage rescue operations, pirate hunting, etc. They are the company you call when you should have called someone else three months ago, just be prepared to pay.
Despite the word "company" in their title, it is estimated that they have the equivalent of about four regiments, including two infantry regiments, an interstellar naval task force and a mechanized assault regiment. Generally, clients either purchase the use of one infantry regiment, one infantry regiment and the mechanized assault regiment or the entire company's services. However, units as small as an actual company can be hired as well.

Excerpt from the Journal of Zan Holindai, Nix Lord Magus:
"Speaking of Bounty Hunters and Mercenaries... Our encounter with the Red Alert Mercenary Company was... short lived and frantic. They have a reputation for being professionally cautious about what jobs they take... so when we encountered them on our route to Ophelia... We were all put on alert.

Ironically, interacting with some of them on a more personal level revealed them to be a generally professional and profitable group, if not pleasant, individually. They take their jobs seriously, even if it is a... less-than-stellar job to undertake, so long as their client pays up.

The fact that we and they almost ended up coming to blows twice on the same mission is concerning to me... However, it seemed that once their client lay dead on the ground, they saw no point in continuing the battle and quickly ceased their attack.

Thank goodness for us... otherwise this could have gone vastly different... and we would probably have been dead."

Not bad there kid! I likes. I like how you stepped away from some of your usual armor that you normally use.
