The Stellar Navy has found that one of the most effective ways of combating the Imperial Consortium is through the use of so-called Fast Attack Squadrons. Small taskforces of light escort and sub-capital ships that operate as special forces units. A Fast Attack Squadron Taskforce (FAST) typically consists of an escort carrier with a wing of special forces fighter and bomber squadrons, a number of destroyers and frigates and several pinnaces, often carrying colonial marine or navy special forces platoons. These taskforces dart behind enemy lines with enough fire power to destroy just about any asset, avoids engagement with the enemy and jumps safely back behind the battle lines to report. It is a strategy that saves the fleet's capital ships for major engagements, is light on resources, and degrades and frustrates the enemy. But one wrong intelligence report, one bad luck run in with an enemy war fleet and a FAST can find itself in a lot of trouble, very quickly. A number of them have jumped behind enemy lines never to be seen again.
