wonder what the flexible parts are made out of, well and the hard plates for that matter.

the model comes with a body suit underneath that looks a bit like a wetsuit. I'd think in real life you'd use a kevlar/carbon nanotube fiber mesh over nomex, with some really lightweight but tough plates. Titanium carbide perhaps.
