Derrickson's Landing is a young colony lying along several trade routes in the Sierra Sector Block of the Chaan region. It is the hope of the colony founders that it will eventually grow to become an important trade stop between nearby systems. Its lone moon, Cyrano, has large deposits of Helium-3, which is used as fuel for fusion reactors, and the planet is rich in heavy metals and radioactive isotopes. The military is also interested in using the world as a listening post and customs patrol station because of its strategic position.
Currently, the planet only has a population of about 9,800. Many of those are terraformers working to make the planet more habitable, but there is also a naval listening post, a small start-up mining facility on the moon, and a scientific project to investigate alien ruins scattered about the planet's surface.
The colony won't be truly viable until the world is made more habitable, but the scientific investigations of ruins at least 40 million years old suggests that the planet was once vibrant and alive, but suffered some sort of extinction level event, that wiped out everything but bacteria. The military has sent its own investigating teams in to "advise" the scientific team, in case the mass extinctions were not a natural occurrence...

This is an entry into the One-Planet-At-A-Time Project.

I have positioned Derricksons Landing in the central Sierra Sector ([link]). As you may have guessed, each of the small white squares on the grid represent a square light year.

Hmmm, (in-cannon) if this project would to succeed and the ruins would be fully excavated, explored and investigated, it might serve as a nice museum-planet for the Cosmic Arc Project :3
