Capital Ship Bridge 1

Description

This is an interior shot of the bridge of a typical Terran Protectorate capital ship, in this case the Hastings-Class Battlecarrier.

On the far left is the communication station, which handles internal and external transmissions.
In the center of the room is the command station, where the captain or OOD (officer on duty) sits. The captain has access to secured comm channels and can call up the screen from any other station on the bridge.

There are three helm stations. On the left is operations, which monitors mission status, allocation of ships resources, manages internal security, etc. In the middle is the actual helm control, which handles the actual flight of the ship. On the right is the tactical station, which oversees weapons systems and tactical information.

Just visible in the bottom corner is part of the bridge engineering station (more on that in a following image).

This bridge was assembled from several other sets, most of which I've retextured to give it a uniform, military look.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think

This remains me of the bridge and the other command and control systems for the Bunker Hill-class Light Cruiser "Lexington," the 22nd-century US Navy space combat vessel from "Mission Critical," a game produced by Legend Entertainment in 1995. The game has a gritty, realistic style and is very detailed.

I found this game absolutely superb, and if you have not played it, I strong suggest that you do so.

I own that game, but I have a Mac, and the game is not presently installed on my PC emulator program.

To see part of what I mean, though, you can see the Lexington's comms room in this screenshot. There is of course a much smaller dedicated comm panel on the bridge, one deck above the room shown. The game explains many details -- even when it comes to controls the player character does not need to operate or does not know how to use. On the Lexington the habitat module is very small compared to the rest of the ship, the crew prosecutes battles by releasing formations of unmanned space combat vehicles, the crew stations have pneumatic shock absorbers, the food synthesizers can work at up to seven gravities, the Lexington has a nasty array of close-in weapons systems and electronic warfare equipment, the electrical systems run on fission power because it is cheaper and easier, the enemy has communications intelligence and tries to trace your tachyon comms so as to triangulate where you are -- so on and so on.
