Arrow Interceptors

Description

The KV-F2 Arrow was the first human mass-produced star fighter. Until that point, only the Mogg'Theran had successfully used star fighters in combat. Some consider the term "star fighter" to be a bit of a misnomer, since they are not actually FTL capable and few have a range greater than an astronomical unit.
The Arrow became famous even among alien species due to its successful use in the first war between the Terran Protectorate and the Imperial Consortium. The I.C. was set to steamroll over humanity until desperation forced humans to fall back to fighter tactics. To the human military's surprise, the I.C. was completely unprepared and unequiped to hand small autonomous fighters.
But the tactic itself would have been useless without the right machine, and the Arrow was the right machine. Sturdy, agile, with excellent range and firepower, the resilient Arrow was easy to maintain, easy to fly, flexible and durable. It has been compared historically to old Earth warplanes like the P-51 Mustang and the F-15 Strike Eagle. Even 60 years after the war, it is still in use by law enforcement agencies, planetary militias, and some mercenary groups, although the avionics have needed to undergo complete refits in those cases.
The Arrow is equipped with two pulsed plasma cannons and twelve ship-to-ship missiles. It is powered by two mini-Tokamak fusion reactors fueled with Helium-3, giving it extended combat range.
The Arrow is a cultural icon of the Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy, to the point that the fighter assigned to the "Ace of Aces" Captain Hanzo Midori (ret.) is on permanent display outside of the Stellar Navy Administrative Center on Terra with its own permanently stationed honor guard. Midori racked up 214 victories during the war, including several destroyers, frigates and cruisers. The Black Angels squadron which he eventually led is still considered the top special forces fighter squadron in the navy three generations later.
